Japanese Knotweed identification changes throughout the year with the plant changing its visual appearance from spring to winter.
In the spring, Japanese Knotweed emerges from winter dormancy with new leaves initially being reddish in appearance with an arrow shaped tip up to 4cm long.
Within a matter of weeks, the plant leaves then change colour to green with a red vein running through them.
Mature areas of established Japanese Knotweed will also produce growth similar to asparagus spears and has the ability to grow 2 inches a day.
